What is UNITED: FOR CHANGE?

In the minute it takes to read this blog, 27 children will have died of preventable causes, when they could have been saved by a few dollars. When around 25,000 to 30,000 children a day are experiencing this kind of death, it seems unethical to sit back and do nothing. The problem for so many in a struggling economy is the feeling that one can’t give enough to make a difference. Working alone it is difficult to make an impact on these numbers. But what if we were UNITED: ?

The purpose of the UNITED: FOR CHANGE movement is to rally college campuses together and as a whole, have each student give a little over a dollar a week. If each of the 5,000 students at a school like Belmont University gave a dollar and some change each week for the entire semester, $100,000 would be raised. This money would go to charities that deal with children, because we firmly believe that we must impact the next generation by showing them that they are not forgotten in order to bring change.

Because many people have varying opinions on which children need aid the most, whether it be in the villages of Africa or in their own communities, the money raised would be split between four charities existing specifically for children: one local charity; to impact the community, a charity for children in America, a charity for children in Africa, and a charity for children around the world. This allows college students to truly impact the world around them as a UNITED: group.
